The JaCkMan from JOYO’s banTamP series is a very compact and portable 20 Watt head voiced for players after the classic gold face, checker grill sound. The amp delivers the iconic raw sound of one of Britain's most famous rock amps. This classic was an untamed beast with its 100W and chunky nature. JaCkMan manages to have the same mid-gain drive sound of its predecessor that reacts beautifully to your playing and guitar volume. Just like the classic rock monster, the JaCkMan benefits from a bit of stomp box help to push it further. Use a TS-type pedal (like the JOYO Green Legend) to push it into high gain territory and hear it sing.
Real Tube Design
The amp operates with a single 12AX7 tube in the preamp stage and uses a solid state Class D power amp. The vintage voicing of the valve preamp gives the amp its tone, responsive dynamics and character, while the advanced Class D power amp keeps the weight low and the power high.
Two Channels and FX Loop
JOYO has packed a remarkable amount of tonal flexibility into the tiny banTamP chassis. The amp includes two channels, Clean and Overdrive. The clean takes pedals very well, which makes it a great little companion for many situations where your “big" head is just not sensible, while the 12AX7 circuit breaks up organically to create a variety of pleasing drive tones on the overdrive channel. If this wasn't enough sonic variety, JOYO has also squeezed in an FX loop, which enables time based effects (or Phasers, Flangers and Choruses) to be inserted after the drive section to keep the effects sharp and not prevent them from being too muddy.
Useful Features
BanTamP includes one speaker out rated at 8Ω but it can also be operated at 16Ω with less power. The amp is small, but loud; its 20 Watts can be quite a handful! For when quiet volumes are required, JOYO have built in a headphone out with speaker emulation. If all of these tricks weren't enough, banTamPs also feature BLUETOOTH connectivity. This means simple connection to BLUETOOTH enabled devices for playing music through the banTamP, great for playing along to backing tracks or learning songs during practice.

By: Lyle Goschnick on 2 April 2019Some feedback on the first outing of the Joyo banTamP “Jackman” that I bought from you last week. I’ve just returned from a Saturday/Saturday night/Sunday morning gruelling rehearsal with the 5-piece band that I’m in. I didn’t even plug the little Joyo in until I got it into the studio. We were working on a broad range of music styles from Ballads to Blues to Jazz rock to Pub Rock – all covers. The amp blew me, and the other band members away. I usually use boutique style amps (just a personal choice) and the little Jackman through a single 12” DV Mark neo cab was incredible. It was plenty loud enough (didn’t have a lot left though) and had the same valve “finger & pick” response that I get from my class “A” Black Pearl, Palomino and Egnater amps. It was damn impressive. I intend trying it for gigging and if necessary, I’ll try it through FOH. Thanks for the fast service and the great product. Good chance I’ll end up with a full set of them. Incidentally, our bass player asked if there is, or is likely to be a matching bass head.
