About Kustom
Kustom began in the mid-1960s when small-town entrepreneur Bud Ross fused America’s love for music and muscle cars by wrapping guitar amps in eye-catching, hot-rod-style Naugahyde upholstery. The bold look, combined with powerful tone, quickly caught the attention of musicians across the USA — and an iconic amplifier brand was born.
What started in a garage soon became a full-scale production facility in Chanute, Kansas. Kustom expanded rapidly, building a full range of gear including guitar and bass amplifiers, PA systems, organs, guitars, and even the first Talk Box — The Bag — famously used by Stevie Wonder and Jeff Beck.
In the ‘60s and ‘70s, Kustom amps were embraced by a wide range of artists: Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Jackson 5, Johnny Cash, James Jamerson, and Herbie Hancock are just a few of the legendary names who trusted the brand for its tone, style, and reliability.
Today, Kustom continues to honor its legacy by producing award-winning amplifiers and PA systems that blend vintage character with modern performance. With distinctive looks and tones that inspire, Kustom remains a favourite for players seeking gear that stands out — both visually and sonically.
