What is the difference between digital and analog delay pedals?
Digital delay pedals sample your signal for clean, precise repeats with long delay times, tap tempo and multiple modes. Analog delays use bucket-brigade circuits that produce warmer, darker repeats but shorter delay times. Many digital units include analog and tape modes that emulate both.
Where should a delay pedal go in the signal chain?
Delay usually sits near the end of the chain, after drive and modulation and just before reverb. If your amp has an effects loop, running delay through the loop keeps repeats clean when using amp distortion.
What delay time should I use?
Slapback sits around 80-140ms, rhythmic repeats typically run 300-600ms, and ambient trails go longer again. Tap tempo makes it easy to lock repeats to the song, which is one of the most useful features of a digital delay pedal.
