About powerCON Connectors

powerCON connectors by Neutrik are the professional standard for locking AC power connections in live sound, lighting and AV. The twist-and-lock design, similar in style to a Speakon, cannot be tugged loose mid-show and is rated at up to 20 A / 250 V, making it a far more robust alternative to standard IEC leads on touring rigs, powered speakers and rack installations.

SWAMP stocks all three Neutrik series: legacy powerCON A/B with blue power-in and grey power-out versions, the IEC-certified XX Series in -S (6-12mm) and -L (10-16mm) cable sizes, and powerCON TRUE1, hot-pluggable under live load with IP65 protection for outdoor rigs. Ready-made powerCON extension leads and combo powerCON and DMX lighting cables are stocked too. Wire the rest of the rig with DMX cables, speaker connectors and power products, light the show with stage lighting, or browse the full audio connectors range.

powerCON FAQs

What is a powerCON connector used for?

powerCON is Neutrik's locking mains power connector, used to feed AC power to powered speakers, stage lighting, amplifier racks and other pro AV equipment. The twist-and-lock coupling gives a secure, high-current connection that standard IEC plugs cannot match.

What is the difference between powerCON TRUE1 and the XX Series?

TRUE1 is certified for hot-plugging, so it can be connected and disconnected under live load, and carries IP65 protection for outdoor use. The XX Series is IEC-certified for cord-set assemblies but is not hot-pluggable, suiting rigs and installations where power is switched elsewhere.

Are powerCON and Speakon connectors interchangeable?

No. They share the same twist-and-lock styling, but powerCON carries mains power while Speakon carries speaker signal, and the connectors are keyed so the two systems cannot mate. Always match powerCON to powerCON and Speakon to Speakon.

Neutrik's powerCON range includes three main series, each tailored to different application and certification needs:

  • Original powerCON A/B (NAC3FCA/NAC3FCB): Legacy connectors featuring blue “Type A” for power input and grey “Type B” for power output. Rated at 20 A/250 V, they are not hot-pluggable and not certified for cord-set assemblies, but remain compatible with older equipment.
  • powerCON XX Series (e.g. NAC3FXXA-W-S): Fully IEC/UL 60320‑1 certified for compliant cord-sets, available in –S (6–12 mm) and –L (10–16 mm) cable versions. While not hot-pluggable, they are circuit-breaking capable when paired with matching XX chassis connectors—offering added safety in approved installations.
  • powerCON TRUE1 (e.g. NAC3F-TRUE1-S): These are the most advanced PowerCON connectors, designed for hot-plugging under live load and built to handle demanding environments. All current TRUE1 models continue to feature Neutrik's TOP (True Outdoor Protection) grade by default—even though “TOP” has been removed from the model numbers in recent revisions.
    • TRUE1 Cable Connectors: Models like NAC3F-TRUE1-S and NAC3M-TRUE1-S replace the older NAC3FX-W-TOP and NAC3MX-W-TOP. They are IP65/IP67 rated when mated and offer UV resistance, flame-retardant materials, and full CBC (circuit breaking capacity) certification.
    • TRUE1 Chassis Connectors: Panel-mount models such as NAC3MPX-TOP and NAC3FPX-TOP remain in production and are compatible with both older and newer TRUE1 cable connectors.
    • Connector Sizes – “-S” vs “-L”: TRUE1 cable connectors are available in two sizes to accommodate different cable outer diameters. Use S versions for 6–12 mm cables, and L for 10–16 mm cables. Choosing the correct size ensures proper sealing, strain relief, and retention of IP65/IP67 protection.
    • Power In vs Power Out Models: Neutrik uses clear naming for connector direction. “Power In” connectors (e.g. NAC3F‑TRUE1‑S cable plug or NAC3MPX‑TOP panel inlet) are used to bring mains power into a device or cable. “Power Out” connectors (e.g. NAC3M‑TRUE1‑S cable plug or NAC3FPX‑TOP panel outlet) are used to daisy‑chain or send power out from a device. Matching the correct type ensures safe and compliant connections.
