The 19" rack case, also known as a rack mount case, is the most common type of road case, used for mounting and transporting audio gear such as signal processors, effects racks and power amplifiers. 19 inches is the industry standard width for rack mountable equipment, and sizes are measured in rack units (RU or U), so a 2U case holds 2 rack units of gear. Because all 19" rack gear is built to standard rack unit heights, everything racks together neatly and efficiently.

Rack Case FAQs
What does 2U or 4U mean on a rack case?
Rack sizes are measured in rack units, written as U or RU, where 1U equals 44.45mm (1.75") of mounting height. A 4U rack case fits four rack units of gear, for example two 2U power amplifiers or four 1U processors.
Will my gear fit a 19 inch rack case?
If your gear is rack mountable, yes: 19 inches is the industry standard width. Add up the RU heights of each unit to pick your case size, and leave a little spare space for cabling, ventilation and future additions.
What is the difference between a rack case and a flight case?
Flight case is a general term for protective transport cases, while a rack case is a specific type fitted with 19" mounting rails. ABS rack cases are commonly called flightcases, so the terms often overlap in practice.
