SWAMP DIY Build Your Own Electric Guitar Kit - JAG Style
If you have ever wanted to build your own JAG JG guitar, but feel you don't have the carpentry or wiring skills of a Luthier, then this SWAMP DIY guitar kit is ideal for you. Includes a routed body, assembled and precut neck, and all other parts required.
The Guitar Body
The body is made from Paulownia wood, a light weight blonde coloured timber with the same strength as Cedar. The holes for the pickups, bridge, jack and neck have been precut for an easier build.
The Guitar Neck
The JAG Guitar Kit includes a bolt on hard maple neck and headstock commonly used on many electric guitars. With 22 frets, and a scale length of 25.5", this guitar, once constructed, will be an instrument upon which the player can perform just about any piece of music they are capable of playing.
The Guitar Controls and Electronics
Similar to most JAG style guitars, there is a 3 way pick up selector wired up to 2x P90 pick ups. A single volume knob and tone knob are ready for you to solder.
The Guitar Hardware
The hardware supplied in the kit includes chrome die-cast tuning keys, a JAG bridge, a chrome jack connector and mount, a 3-Ply Red Pearloid pickguard, plus all the screws and bolts required to put the guitar together. In addition each kit comes with a set of strings and guitar lead to plug into the amplifier.

By: Nick on 13 May 2025Never checked out a guitar kit before & had a Jag idea in mind, so this seemed perfect. The kit has positives & negatives. The body is fantastic: light, well made, smooth. All the routing/drilling is accurate, neat & everything lines up perfectly. A+. The neck had some imperfections in the headstock area, but Swamp was happy to compensate me some $, so I’m happy. Later I noticed the 1st fret was significantly lower than the rest; too low to bring all the other frets down to match, so I had to pull it & re-glue it higher. Also the 2nd fret had a couple small dents in it. I would’ve pulled that one too but was reluctant because the board flaked a bit along the slot when I pulled the 1st fret, (whatever the wood is it’s quite soft; I dunno how it’d go with a full fret replace). The first 4-ish frets were inconsistent but after that they were fine; it looked like the installer needed a few go’s to get in the swing. The wire is not the beefiest, so after I levelled down to the dented fret they’re on the low side. In retrospect I should’ve returned the neck & asked for a replacement. The neck profile is quite chunky, which I like & it has a dual action truss rod, which is fantastic. The tremolo/tuners/switch/output all work great. Pickups are reasonable; bright & spanky, which is cool. The pots are tiny; I had some decent spares so swapped them without trying them, they might’ve worked perfectly fine though, so no judgement there. The bridge is very poor; the saddles wobble & buzz like CRAZY. The only way to make it stop is to screw them all the way to the end of their slot so they’re locked in place, but then intonation is out. I planned on using a different bridge for this project anyway, so once I figured out what the rattle was I didn’t mind. Not good if you want to use the supplied bridge though. Once assembled it turned out a tad heavier than I expected, but not overly so. I would happily pay a bit more for this kit if it meant the frets, fret work & board were a better quality. The kit has potential to be really good. I was told it was a new line so hopefully Swamp can improve future versions. I def think it’s worth them making the effort/investment. Cheers.
