For the low-end purists and tone chasers alike, the Artist APJ4F might sound closer to an upright double bass, but with a gloss black roasted poplar body, 3-ply black pickguard and Bolivian rosewood fingerboard, you'll be sneaking The Lick into a rock setlist without anyone suspecting a thing. With an Alnico V split-coil humbucking pickup in the neck position and an ultra-smooth single-coil in the bridge, you can coax a surprising variety of tones out of this one - from warm, woody jazz thumps to a more present glide with plenty of high-mid attack and smooth top end - all adjustable with two independent volume knobs and a master tone pot.
Built for Fretless Playing
The light-roasted maple neck is carved to an ergonomic, modern C-shaped profile, silky smooth under the hand thanks to a friction-reducing satin finish, letting your fingers dance over the 9.5" radius Bolivian rosewood fingerboard. Because every point of string contact matters more without frets, Artist fitted a high-density zinc-alloy chrome bridge and 42mm bone nut, ensuring superior resonance and plenty of sustain, while high-grade open-back tuners and a bar-style string tree keep your tuning in check. Fret-position markers guide the way to a perfectly intonated note every time, and each APJ4F comes complete with a road-ready padded gig bag - perfect for the practice space, a dive bar or conservatorium, a wedding gig or smoky jazz spot.
