About powerCON Connectors
powerCON connectors by Neutrik are the professional benchmark for secure, high-current AC power connections in the live sound, lighting, and AV industries. Designed with a rugged twist-and-lock mechanism similar to Speakon connectors, they create a rigid and reliable connection that reduces wear on both cable and equipment. Ideal for touring rigs, fixed installations, rack-mounted gear, and powered loudspeakers, these locking AC power cables offer a far more robust alternative to standard IEC leads.
Neutrik's powerCON range includes three main series, each tailored to different application and certification needs:
- Original powerCON A/B (NAC3FCA/NAC3FCB): Legacy connectors featuring blue “Type A” for power input and grey “Type B” for power output. Rated at 20 A/250 V, they are not hot-pluggable and not certified for cord-set assemblies, but remain compatible with older equipment.
- powerCON XX Series (e.g. NAC3FXXA-W-S): Fully IEC/UL 60320‑1 certified for compliant cord-sets, available in –S (6–12 mm) and –L (10–16 mm) cable versions. While not hot-pluggable, they are circuit-breaking capable when paired with matching XX chassis connectors—offering added safety in approved installations.
- powerCON TRUE1 (e.g. NAC3F-TRUE1-S): These are the most advanced PowerCON connectors, designed for hot-plugging under live load and built to handle demanding environments. All current TRUE1 models continue to feature Neutrik's TOP (True Outdoor Protection) grade by default—even though “TOP” has been removed from the model numbers in recent revisions.
- TRUE1 Cable Connectors: Models like NAC3F-TRUE1-S and NAC3M-TRUE1-S replace the older NAC3FX-W-TOP and NAC3MX-W-TOP. They are IP65/IP67 rated when mated and offer UV resistance, flame-retardant materials, and full CBC (circuit breaking capacity) certification.
- TRUE1 Chassis Connectors: Panel-mount models such as NAC3MPX-TOP and NAC3FPX-TOP remain in production and are compatible with both older and newer TRUE1 cable connectors.

Choosing the Right Series
- Need hot-plugging or weatherproofing? Choose the TRUE1 series — all current models are outdoor-rated and CBC-certified, even if “TOP” is no longer in the part number.
- Building compliant cord sets? The XX Series is IEC-certified and designed for modern safety requirements.
- Maintaining legacy gear? The original A/B connectors remain a simple, cost-effective solution.
