DI and Amp Simulator
The Radial™ JDX Direct-Drive is a unique product that combines analogue amplifier and cabinet simulation with a pristine DI in the one product. Unlike a regular direct box, the Direct-Drive simulates the tone and feel of a real guitar amp, producing a much more realistic sound. Perfect for performing guitarists that want a consistent sound in their monitor mix, night after night, no matter the venue or sound technician.
Amp and Cabinet Simulation
The Direct-Drive features the classic JDX sound, modelled on a Marshall™ 4x12 cabinet mic'd with a Shure SM57™, as well as two aditional emulation circuits. The first adds a vintage Marshall™ tube head character to the signal path and the second delivers a tone reminiscent of an early Fender Twin™. The two amp tones can be sculpted further with the presence switch for extra sparkle.
Eliminates the need for a Microphone
It is common practice for guitarists to place a microphone in front of their amp to send the amplified sound to the PA or recording system. The problem is that when the mic is very close to the speaker cone, a slight change in position will significantly alter the sound. This makes getting consistent results difficult. This is further exacerbated by the room acoustics which vary considerably from stage to stage and bleed from other instruments entering the mic making it more difficult to mix.
The design begins with a traditional ¼" guitar input and passive thru-put to feed a stage amp. This is then followed by a dedicated, buffered, tuner output, followed by a series of carefully sculpted filters to create Radial’s signature JDX tone. The guitar signal exits the Direct-Drive via either a ¼" guitar-level output or via a balanced XLR output. The unit also includes a 180° polarity reverse switch to help phase-align monitors with the stage amp, and a ground lift switch to help eliminate ground loops hum.
Rugged Radial Construction and Reliability
As with all Radial products, the Direct-Drive is made to handle the rigors of professional touring with 14-gauge steel throughout. This not only helps prevent damage to the internal PCB, it also reduces susceptibility to noise from external magnetic fields.
