This shielded Cat5e cable from SWAMP is a heavy duty STP Cat5e cable with a rugged outer jacket that lays flat. Ideal for digital audio applications at indoor or outdoor events, it is also suitable for ordinary office Ethernet and network connections, carrying Gigabit Ethernet (1 GigE).

With the rise of digital mixing desks and stage boxes comes the need for high quality, durable Cat5e cable to carry digital audio from the stage to the FOH mixing console. It also suits non-audio applications such as digital lighting, video, PC runs and general AV.
Analogue Audio Snakes and Phantom Power
The same cable suits passive (analogue) XLR-to-RJ45 audio snakes and stage boxes. On these boxes the cable's foil shield and drain wire carry the ground (pin 1) that phantom power returns on, so a shielded cable like this one is what lets condenser microphones work down the line - unshielded (UTP) cable will not pass phantom power. Keep the shield connected at both ends with shielded RJ45 plugs. The pure copper conductors are stranded for flexibility, suiting patch runs and long stage snakes that get coiled, moved and walked on.
